First – Knockanree Garden
Stephen Rooney and Nadiya Nottingham purchased Knockanree garden when they moved from New York in 2023. It was designed for Past President of the RHSI, Harold Clarke, in 1995 who transformed the landscape into a collectors woodland garden replete with water features and various garden rooms including a “Zen Circle”. Steve is managing Knockanree Garden with respect for its original design, but with an eye to removing invasive material and adding native plants. He and Nadiya want to encourage wildlife and biodiversity and are practicing a low-touch approach.

Steve has a lifelong passion for gardening and will be our guide. The visit is free of charge but no refreshments are available. Booking is available via Eventbrite on the button below.

Second – the National Botanic Gardens, Kilmacurragh

These gardens lie within an estate developed extensively during the 19th century by Thomas Acton in conjunction with David Moore and his son Sir Frederick Moore. It was a period of great botanical and geographical explorations with numerous plant species from around the world being introduced to Ireland for the first time.

The specific soil and climatic conditions at Kilmacurragh resulted in many of these specimens succeeding, it is particularly famous for its conifer and rhododendron collections.

There is no charge for either of these events but MUST be booked.
