While Dr Charles Nelson, one of the society’s founding members, worked in the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin (1976 – 1995) he recorded particulars of every garden plant that was raised in Ireland or which, by various means, was associated with Irish gardeners or gardens. This unique encyclopaedia is the culmination of that work. A Heritage of Beauty records around 3,500 cultivars and lists, among others, the names of about 1000 daffodils and more than 800 roses.
