Coolcarrigan is a 15 acre garden outside Naas, Co Kildare. Following storm damage in the 70s, a major restoration took place with the assistance of the eminent plantsman, Sir Harold Hillier. Coolcarrigan holds a collection of rare and unusual trees and shrubs: Daphnes, Mahonias , Osmanthus and Viburnums will treat us with their aromas; Magnolias and Camellias, including campbellii, will be displaying their flowers; And trees such as Prunus, Malus, Pieris, Sorbus, Ameliancher, underplanted with a variety of spring bulbs, will be coming into leaf in late April.
Our visit will be guided by owner, Robert Wilson Wright. The gardens are flat and suitable for all though sturdy footwear is always advised. Parking on site. Tea/coffee and scones will be provided.
