Tue 7th Oct – “Bioprospecting in the Andean Highlands” by Siva Velivelli – Biological Earth & Environmental Sciences UCC
The Central Andean Highlands are the centre of origin of the potato plant (Solanum tuberosum). Ages of mutualism between potato plants and soil bacteria in this region support the hypothesis that Andean soils harbour interesting plant growth-promoting bacteria. In this lecture, Siva takes us on a journey from the Andean Highlands to his UCC laboratory, toward the development of more sustainable growing systems using plant growth-promoting natural microbial resources.
